Easy Hamburger Gravy Recipe
You’re probably having a flashback to the elementary school cafeteria when hamburger gravy and mashed potatoes were on the menu. Honestly, it was one of my favorite meals and as such, it’s also one of my kids’ favorite meals. This recipe is for the tired, worn down, low on groceries mom who just needs to get dinner on the table. If that sounds relatable, you’ve come to the right place. This recipe is fast, cheap and easy and so yummy!
The Cowboys’ Rating: 9/10
Every time I make a new recipe, I have my family rate the recipe out of 10. By the time, these recipes make the blog, they’ve been tried and tested by some of my hardest tiny critics!
What Ingredients Are in Easy Hamburger Gravy?
- Ground Beef – We raise beef for a living and have for over 15 years. My husband is also a third-generation farmer and rancher, we know good beef. The key to good recipes is good, nutrient dense food. If you are local, you can find our beef here. I always use our lean blend of 90/10. It’s so good and I never have to drain off any fat.
- Beef Base – I love to use this Tones Beef Base for my beef recipes. It’s gluten free and it lasts a long time. It adds so much flavor to beef recipes. If you don’t have beef base, you can use Better Than Boullion as well.
- Worcestershire Sauce – I like to add Worcestershire sauce to the beef because it enhances the richness of the beef.
- All Purpose Flour
- Butter
- Whole Milk – I am a whole milk advocate. Whole milk has a higher fat content which makes the flavor better.
Seasonings
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Kosher Salt
- Pepper

To make this recipe gluten free, you will need to swap out the flour for a gluten free flour blend. Below is my favorite gluten free flour to use:
Sides for Easy Hamburger Gravy
Keeping in mind that this recipe is for the tired and out of groceries, these honey glazed carrots are what I serve with the hamburger gravy as a side. If I don’t have much time, I just serve the gravy over the top of toast. But… If I have some extra motivation, I will make my homemade buttermilk biscuits to layer this delicious gravy on. I will link both recipes below.
Storage and Reheating
Storage:
Storage:
Allow the hamburger gravy to cool completely, then transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheating:
Reheat the gravy in a skillet or saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until warmed through. If the gravy has thickened too much, add a splash of milk or beef broth to loosen it and restore its creamy texture.
