Slow Cooker Shredded BBQ Chicken

This slow cooker shredded BBQ chicken is a quick throw together dinner option for those wanting to throw something in the crockpot before heading out the door. The results are tender, juicy, BBQ chicken packed with tangy-sweet barbecue flavor. It's a perfect easy weeknight dinner with minimal time and ingredients.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 8 count hoagie buns (or hard rolls)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper

Optional:

  • shredded cheese
  • BBQ sauce

Instructions
 

  • Place chicken breasts in the bottom of a slow cooker.
  • Mix sauce ingredients together and pour over top of chicken
  • Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours.
  • 30 minutes before serving, remove chicken and shred.
  • Return chicken to slow cooker.
  • Split the hamburger buns in half and butter each side.
  • Place the buns on a baking sheet and set under the broiler for 1–2 minutes, or until lightly toasted and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and spoon desired amount of chicken onto hoagie buns or hard rolls and serve.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

If you like your meals smothered in cheese, fill free to add some shredded cheese and pop it back under the broiler for that melty cheese effect. We also like to add more of our favorite BBQ sauce on top (because why not?).
