Walking Tacos Recipe
This walking taco with Fritos recipe is one that I use ALL the time in the summer. We do a lot of camping in the summer and fall, and I am always having to come up with easy recipes that I can throw together in less than 20 minutes. It’s usually because we ride in about dark with some hungry, cranky boys who swear they will not survive another minute without food.
This recipe could not be easier to make and it’s so versatile. The reason this meal is called walking tacos, is because it does not require a plate or a bowl. You just throw everything together in a small Fritos bag and eat it straight out of the bag. If you can’t find the small bags of Fritos, just grab a bag of the family size Fritos. Then grab a plate, spoon some taco meat on your plate and pour the Fritos over top and add your favorite toppings. It’s that easy. A delicious, hearty dinner will be served quickly and everyone will be happy.

What Ingredients Are in Walking Tacos?
- Ground Beef – As always, we use our own homegrown ground beef that is grass-finished and regeneratively raised. It’s delicious, lean and so good. Our ground beef is 90/10 and I never have to drain off a bunch of fat.
- Minced Garlic – Adding just a little minced garlic just makes the taco meat that much better.
- Onion Powder – Because we have onion haters in my house, I always use onion powder. Onion powder gives some extra flavor to the ground beef.
- Taco Seasoning – I make my own homemade taco seasoning which is our family’s favorite taco seasoning. It’s not too overpowering and is packed full of flavor. If you don’t have time to make your own taco seasoning, just use a regular taco seasoning packet.
- Salt
- Pepper
- Salsa – To make the taco meat more moist, I always add 1/2 cup of salsa to the ground beef mixture. It gives it some amazing flavor.
- Fritos Chips – When I can find the small bags of Fritos, I will use the small bags so that everyone can make their own bag. However, if you can’t find the small bags of Fritos, just grab a large bag and make that work!
TOPPINGS
- Sour Cream
- Shredded Cheese
- Salsa
- Diced Tomatoes
- Olives
- Jalapeños
- Ranch
