Smash Burger Recipe
Smash burgers are a huge hit at our house. Not only are they boasting with beef flavor, they’re juicy, slightly crispy on the edges and better than any burger you can get at a burger joint at a fraction of the cost. Did I also mention that they cook incredibly fast? So not only is this the best smash burger recipe, it’s a quick one too.

What Ingredients Are in Homemade Smash Burgers?
- Ground Beef: I always use our homegrown ground beef. There’s nothing like it. It’s so incredibly good and packed full of nutrients. It also lean (90/10) and I never have to drain it.
- Egg – The egg helps to keep all the ingredients in the smash burgers together.
- Italian Breadcrumbs – The flavor of these breadcrumbs really adds an enhanced flavor to the smash burgers. I prefer this over regular plain breadcrumbs.
- Ketchup – This adds just a tinge of zing to the burgers.
- Worcestershire Sauce – First of all, is there anyone who can say this phonetically correct? Ok me either. Moving on. I love using Worcestershire with beef ingredients. It enhances the flavors and gives it depth.
- Seasoned Salt – Did you know that seasoned salt is a blend of salt, herbs and seasonings? There are many different variations out there, but for this recipe, I just use regular ol’ Lawry’s Seasoned Salt. It does the trick and makes these burgers super flavorful.
- Pepper – you can’t have salt without pepper. Obviously.
- Onion Powder – In our house, we do NOT do onions. Like ever. My husband hates only one food that I know of, and onions are it. So still wanting to add the flavor of onion-ish to my meals, I use a lot of onion powder. It’s zesty, adds some robust flavor without being too overpowering and gives a nice kick to you dish without offending the onion haters. So, add in some onion powder here to give your burgers a nice kick of flavor.
- Garlic Powder – I also use a lot of garlic powder in my recipes. I love flavorful food, and garlic powder helps bring in some intense flavor that I love. Using garlic powder compliments the other ingredients in the recipe as well.
- Oil for frying – Any oil will do here. You’ll need a few tablespoons to fry up the smash burgers. I prefer beef tallow or olive oil, but you can use whatever you like.
- Hamburger Buns – You will notice in these pictures that the buns I use are not like any other buns. I always make my own homemade buns, and it takes any burger to the next level! You can find that recipe here.

How to Make Smash Burgers Gluten Free
Because this recipe calls for Italian breadcrumbs, it is not gluten free. However, you can make this recipe gluten free by purchasing gluten free breadcrumbs and adding those instead. Here are the breadcrumbs that I have found that work great in this recipe.
How to Store Homemade Smash Burgers
If you have left-over smash burgers, just store them in an airtight container in the fridge. When you want to reheat them, the easiest way to do this is by popping them in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes at 350 degrees F. They will taste just like they came out of the oven and won’t be soggy. If you don’t have an air fryer, just pop them back in the oven at 375 degrees F until warmed through.
