Slow Cooker Mississippi Pot Roast
This slow cooker Mississippi roast recipe is a popular roast recipe that delivers big flavor with minimal effort, making it perfect for busy families and weeknight dinners. With tender beef, zesty pepperoncini, and a rich blend of ranch and au jus seasoning, this dish cooks low and slow until it practically falls apart. It’s comforting, delicious, and always a crowd-pleaser.
Now disclaimer here: The pepperoncini peppers are a bit spicy – so if you’re making this for a family friendly meal, I would leave those out. When I make this for my family, we leave it out because my kids do not like spicy meals at all.

What Ingredients Are in Slow Cooker Mississippi Roast?
- Beef Roast – There are a few different roast cuts that you can use for a pot roast. My first choice is a chuck roast. Of all the beef roasts, chuck roasts are my favorite roast cut. The chuck roast comes from the shoulder of a beef and has lots of flavor. There is marbling throughout the roast that makes it tender and delicious when it’s been slow cooked all day. The next cut that I really enjoy is a rump roast. If you are looking for a leaner, less marbled roast, the rump roast is perfect for the best Sunday pot roast dinner. And finally, the last roast cut would be a round roast. All solid choices and all delicious. If you’re looking for a good source for beef, you can find that here 😉
- Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Seasoning – Hidden Valley Ranch dressing seasoning is used in Mississippi roast because it adds a savory, tangy flavor that balances the richness of the beef. It blends with the au jus and butter to create the classic tender, flavorful sauce the roast is known for.
- Au Jus Seasoning – As mentioned above, both the ranch and Au Jus Seasoning are key to the Mississippi roast flavors.
- Potatoes – To make this recipe even easier and eliminate figuring out what sides to serve with this Mississippi roast recipe, I add in some potatoes. My two favorite kinds of potatoes are red potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes.
- Carrots
- Butter
- [Optional] – Pepperoncini Peppers – Traditional Mississippi roast recipes have pepperoncini peppers on top. My husband loves this, but my kids do not. They are a little spicy so if you’re going for a family friendly meal with littles who can’t take the heat, I would suggest leaving them out.
