Best Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches

This slow cooker French dip sandwich recipe is probably in my top five easiest recipes that I make, yet it is absolutely delicious and my family raves about it every single time. It doesn’t require anything fancy, just a simple beef roast, some seasonings, cheese and some rolls.

I have four boys, and I’m a ranch wife, so our life is busy. Always. We are going all the time. But I refuse to let our business get in the way of having dinner together at the table each night. It might be 4:30pm when we have to eat dinner or 10pm, but we still eat dinner as a family. On those days when I know it’s going to be a busy one, I will make this recipe. This recipe is a perfect blend of simplicity and flavor, making it an easy go-to for busy families. With just a few minutes of prep, the beef roast cooks low and slow until it’s tender, juicy, and full of rich savory goodness. Then it’s piled high on a toasted bun with melty cheese and dipped in au jus for the perfect, no-fuss meal.

What Ingredients Are in Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches?

  • Beef Roast – You can honestly use any roast for this recipe. My favorite beef roast is a chuck roast, however, this recipe can be used with any cut. If you’re looking for a good source for beef, you can find that here 😉
  • Tones Beef Base -or- Better Than Bouillion – Beef base is a concentrated paste made from beef, vegetables and seasonings. It is loaded with flavor and really brings out that beef flavor. Here are my two favorite bases: Tones Beef Base + Better Than Bouillion
  • Provolone or Mozzarella Cheese – I have used both types of cheese for this recipe and they both are wonderful and equally delicious.
  • Hoagie Rolls – I love to use hoagie rolls for this recipe because they’re simple and delicious. Feel free to use any type of roll you prefer.

Gluten Free French Dip Sandwiches

To make this recipe gluten free, you would want to substitute the hoagie buns for a gluten free bread. All other ingredients in this recipe are gluten free, however I do always caution to make sure that the ingredients YOU are using are indeed gluten free. Tones Beef Base is gluten free and can be found here.

Storage and Reheating

Premade French dip sandwiches don’t store well in the fridge. They will get soggy. I store the beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. When I want leftovers, I repeat the process of assembling the sandwiches again.
