We are very big breakfast fans at our house. Not only are we big breakfast for breakfast fans, but we’re BIG breakfast for dinner fans. If my dinner plans fall through for whatever reason, you can pretty much guarantee that I’m going to make breakfast for dinner. It’s so simple, I always have breakfast ingredients on hand, and none of my tiny critics are every sad we are having breakfast.

Usually my go-to recipe is this sausage gravy and biscuit recipe of mine. Not only do my kids and husband love my sausage gravy and biscuits, but it’s also super easy to make! The Cowboys’ Rating: 10/10

Every time I make a new recipe, I have my family rate the recipe out of 10. By the time, these recipes make the blog, they’ve been tried and tested by some of my hardest tiny critics!

What Ingredients Are in Sausage Gravy and Biscuits?

  • Sausage – We raise our own pasture-raised pork, so we use a mild homemade sausage blend. Any flavor of your choice will do.
  • Biscuits – I always make my homemade butter milk biscuits for this recipe. You can find that recipe here. If you don’t have time to make biscuits, canned biscuits work as well!
  • Milk -Whole milk is the best option for white gravy. The added fat gives it a better flavor.
  • Butter – I like to use salted butter.
  • All Purpose Flour – This is what I always have on hand. I have made this recipe using gluten free flour as well. My favorite gluten free flour is Cup4Cup GF flour or Bob’s Redmill GF flour.
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Tools You’ll Need

How to Make Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

  1. Cook biscuits according to package directions (or use my homemade buttermilk biscuit recipe here.)
  2. Add sausage to a medium stockpot and cook. While cooking break into small pieces. Cook until completely cooked through.
  3. When sausage is done, add butter to sausage.
  4. When butter is melted, add in flour and whisk together until flour is well incorporated into the sausage.
  5. Slowly add in the milk, whisking frequently until the gravy begins to thicken and reaches desired consistency.
  6. When the gravy has thickened, remove from heat and salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve over top of warm biscuits.
  8. Enjoy!

How to Store Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

I store the biscuits in a Ziploc bag in the fridge or on the counter and then the gravy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This is a great breakfast option IF you have leftovers. Usually, my kids gobble it all down during dinner and there isn’t any sausage gravy or biscuits left. However, if you get some leftovers, they can easily be reheated in the microwave!
