From Scratch White Gravy Recipe
I’m not sure about you, but I feel like most things taste better with gravy over the top. But good gravy… Gravy can also ruin good food too. Well, this recipe for easy white gravy certainly makes everything even better. It’s creamy and delicious and seriously the ultimate comfort food.
My 11-year-old son loves biscuits and gravy. It’s his all-time favorite food. So, he asked me if I would teach him how to make it. He’s a very independent child. (Learning to really lean into that as he ages, but also kinda hard too?) Anyway, we spent an afternoon in the kitchen, and I taught him how to make this gravy. He’s since made it quite a few times and he does a great job – that’s how easy it is!

What Ingredients Are in White Gravy?
There are only 3 main ingredients in homemade white gravy. It is super simple to make and comes together quickly.
- Milk -Whole milk is the best option for white gravy. The added fat gives it a better flavor.
- Butter – I like to use salted butter.
- All Purpose Flour – This is what I always have on hand. I have made this recipe using gluten free flour as well. My favorite gluten free flour is Cup4Cup GF flour or Bob’s Redmill GF flour.
- Salt
- Pepper

How to Store White Gravy
I store the excess homemade white gravy in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Sometimes I make the gravy ahead of time and put it in the refrigerator for future recipes to cut down on dinnertime. When you’re ready to eat the gravy, just pop it in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, stir and serve! It’s super simple!
What to Serve White Gravy With
Anything and everything. Better yet, just grab a spoon and eat it plain. Kinda kidding but kinda not. It’s that good. You can serve it over biscuits, chicken, hamburger steak, chicken fried steak, and the list goes on: Here are a few of my recipes that I serve this with:
