My kids – who by the way hate avocados, sit down with a bowl of this and some chips and devour it. So that my friends, tells you it must be good. Helpful Ingredient Tips
- Avocados – For the best guacamole, it’s best to use ripe avocados. Here are a few tips for determining if avocados are ripe or not:
- To tell if an avocado is ripe:
- It should feel slightly soft when gently squeezed, but not mushy.
- The skin will usually be dark green to almost black.
- If you remove the small stem cap at the top, it should be green underneath. Brown underneath usually means it’s overripe.
- If your avocados are hard, let them sit on the counter for 1–3 days to ripen before making guacamole.
- To tell if an avocado is ripe:
- Salsa – I love using salsa in guacamole because it already has so much great flavor from ingredients like tomatoes, onions, garlic, and peppers, making this recipe quick, easy, and delicious. I use my homemade salsa recipe, but you can use whatever salsa is your favorite for this recipe.
- Lime Juice – Lime juice adds a fresh, bright flavor to guacamole while also helping balance the richness of the avocados. It also helps slow the avocados from browning too quickly, keeping your guacamole looking fresh and vibrant longer.
- Salt – Salt may seem simple, but it really helps bring all the flavors together in this guacamole. It enhances the creamy avocados, bright lime juice, and flavorful salsa, making every bite taste fresh, balanced, and so delicious.
