What Ingredients are in Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies?

  • Old-Fashioned Oats – I’ve tried a lot of different oats on my quest to make this the BEST chocolate chip oatmeal recipe, and old-fashioned oats are the best for this recipe.
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Butter Flavored Shortening – This shortening is key to having fluffy cookies that hold their shape. I have found when I use butter, the cookies spread too much and are flat. Butter flavored shortening still allows the cookies to have a rich flavor, while holding their shape and still being moist and chewy.
  • White Sugar
  • Brown Sugar – Brown sugar in these cookies plays an important role in flavor. The molasses gives the cookies a really yummy caramel-like flavor.
  • Eggs
  • Baking Soda -Baking powder is a leavening agent. This is important in this recipe to achieve the soft, chewy texture.
  • Baking Powder – Baking powder is also a leavening agent that allows cookies to be light and fluffy and achieve the light and airy texture.
  • Salt – Salt enhances the flavor of the cookies.
  • Vanilla – I love to add vanilla to this German pancakes recipe. It adds a sweet flavor to these pancakes.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips – I use semi-sweet chocolate chips in this oatmeal chocolate chip recipe because it adds a richer flavor that balances out the sweetness of the other ingredients.
