To be honest, we mostly have this for dinner. I know there are some strong opinions out there about breakfast for dinner, but it’s a huge thing at our house. If I’m not making some sort of breakfast for dinner at least 2-3x a week, the cowboys in my house start rioting. Ok maybe not rioting, but they certainly have no problem letting me know their displeasure about it. What Ingredients Are in Biscuits and Gravy Casserole?
- Sausage – We raise our own pasture-raised pork, so we use a mild homemade sausage blend. Any flavor of your choice will do.
- Eggs
- Biscuits – I use canned biscuits for this recipe. After much taste testing and making this recipe 3394 times, I have found that the Pilsbury Grands Buttermilk Southern Homestyle Biscuits are my favorite for this easy biscuits and gravy casserole.
- Cheese – I use shredded cheddar for this recipe so that it complements the flavors well.

Recipe for Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9×13″ baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a frying pan, cook sausage until completely cooked.
- Remove from heat and drain. Set aside.
- Mix milk and eggs together and whisk until well combined. Set aside.
- Cut biscuits into small bite sized pieces and layer evenly along the bottom of baking dish.
- Layer the sausage evenly over top of the biscuits.
- Sprinkle cheese evenly over the top of the biscuits and sausage layer.
- Pour the egg mixture over top of the casserole. Set aside.
- Make the gravy. When the gravy is done, pour evenly over the top of the casserole. Salt and pepper to taste,
- Bake for 35-45 minutes until the casserole is slightly browned on top and the eggs are completely cooked through. (I usually insert a knife into the center of the casserole to see if the eggs are set and no longer runny).

How to Store Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Leftovers can easily be reheated in the microwave!

One of the best things about this recipe is that it can be made ahead of time! I will usually make this casserole in the morning, cover it, and pop it in the fridge for the day. Then when I get home after a busy day, I take it out of the fridge and bake it.
