The Cowboys’ Rating: 9/10

Every time I make a new recipe, I have my family rate the recipe out of 10. By the time, these recipes make the blog, they’ve been tried and tested by some of my hardest tiny critics!

Helpful Ingredient Tips

  • Ground Beef – As always, we use our own homegrown ground beef that is grass-finished and regeneratively raised. It’s delicious, lean and so good. Our ground beef is 90/10 and I never have to drain off a bunch of fat.
  • Fries – I made my own homemade fries for these bowls. If you do not want to do that, you can just buy some premade fries and cook them according to the package directions. But… if you do want to make your own homemade fries, I have included directions below on how to do this. It’s so dang easy and delicious!
  • Fry Sauce – One thing that I will stress about this recipe is that you need a sauce for these bowls. I made my homemade fry sauce that we love. You can find the recipe here. If fry sauce isn’t your thing, you can just serve these bowls with ketchup or mustard (or both).
  • Toppings – My kids are pretty picky, so we keep toppings pretty simple – tomatoes, pickles and lettuce. However, if you love a good, loaded burger, add as many toppings as you want! Ex: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, shredded cheese, bacon, avocado, jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions.

How to Make Homemade Fries

I have found that large russet potatoes make the best fries. Russet potatoes are high in starch and low in moisture, which helps them fry up crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They also hold their shape well. Before I start peeling and prepping my fries, I heat up my oil. You can pour some oil in a large stock pot or use a deep fryer. I use a deep fryer because it’s less of a mess. If you’re using a large stock pot, you will want the temperature of your oil to be around 375 degrees F.

Start by peeling and cutting your potatoes into even strips. Once they’re cut, rinse them in cold water to remove excess starch. Pat them completely dry—this is key for getting that crispy texture. Carefully add the fries to hot oil in a deep fryer and cook until they’re golden brown and crispy, stirring occasionally so they cook evenly.

Once they’re perfectly crisp, remove them from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Immediately sprinkle with salt while they’re hot, then serve right away for the best flavor and texture.

Recipe for Burger Bowls with Fries

  1. Start by getting your fries cooking. If you’re making homemade fries, you can find full instructions in the post above or cook frozen fries according to package directions.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the seasonings and Worcestershire sauce until fully cooked. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. While the beef cooks, prep your toppings.
  4. Once the fries are hot and crispy, assemble your bowls. Add a layer of fries to the bottom, then top with your desired amount of seasoned ground beef and toppings. Finish with a generous drizzle of fry sauce.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Storage and Reheating

Storage:
Store leftovers in separate airtight containers for best results—keep the fries, beef, and toppings (especially fresh ones like lettuce and tomatoes) separate. Refrigerate for up to 3–4 days.

Reheating:
Reheat the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat or in the microwave until warmed through. For the fries, reheat in an air fryer or oven at 375°F until hot and crispy again (avoid the microwave if possible so they don’t get soggy). Assemble fresh with toppings and fry sauce just before serving.
