Cheeseburger Bake Recipe
I’m currently in my make everything a casserole era. I’m sure all moms go through this, but I’m enjoying figuring out some good casserole recipes. I have a tater tot casserole recipe that is amazing, but I wanted a cheeseburger bake recipe. One that when you took a bite, you thought, this tastes just like a cheeseburger and fries. This recipe took a few tries, but I am so excited to share it with you. With a delicious tater tot base, cheeseburger layer, and then all your favorite burger toppings, I think you’re going to love it. I also made an irresistible fry sauce to drizzle over the top to tie all the flavors together.

What Ingredients Are in Cheeseburger Bake?
- Ground Beef – As always, we use our own homegrown ground beef that is grass-finished and regeneratively raised. It’s delicious, lean and so good. Our ground beef is 90/10 and I never have to drain off a bunch of fat.
- Extra Crispy Tater Tots – I like to use these Ore-Ida extra crispy tater tots. They have a great flavor and don’t go soggy in the casserole.
- Medium Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Lettuce
- Tomatoes
- Fry Sauce – I have a full recipe for fry sauce here. It is something us Utah people love. It’s the perfect dressing to serve over top of this cheeseburger bake.

Tools You’ll Need

Recipe for Cheeseburger Bake
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Arrange the tater tots in an even layer on the bottom of the dish and bake for 25 minutes, or until lightly golden and crisp.
- While the tater tots are baking, cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add the seasonings and Worcestershire sauce, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and cooked through; drain any excess grease if needed.
- Remove the tater tots from the oven after 25 minutes.
- Evenly spread the cooked beef mixture over the crispy tater tots, then sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.
- Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine sauce ingredients and mix until smooth and well combined. Set aside.
- Remove from the oven and top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, pickles, and a generous drizzle of fry sauce.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Storage and Reheating
Allow the cheeseburger bake to cool completely before storing. Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or transfer leftovers to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3–4 days. If there is any remaining fry sauce let over, store it in a separate airtight container and refrigerate.
To reheat, warm individual portions in the microwave in 30-second intervals until heated through, or reheat larger portions in a 350°F oven until hot and bubbly. For best texture, store fresh toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and fry sauce) separately and add them after reheating.
