What Ingredients Are in Slow Cooker Beef Stew?

  • Stew Meat – Stew meat is just pieces of beef cut into small bite sized pieces. We raise our own grass-finished regeneratively raised beef, so I have our butcher package several packages of stew meat each year. If I don’t have stew meat, I will just take a beef roast and cut it into bite sized pieces. Either works for this recipe.
  • Beef Broth – This is going to be the base of your beef stew. I like to use beef broth rather than water because it gives it more flavor.
  • Potatoes – Red potatoes are my favorite to use in stew, but you can use russet or gold potatoes as well.
  • Carrots – You can’t have stew without including carrots. Soft, sweet carrots add so much flavor to the stew.
  • Frozen Peas – I like to sneak in as many vegetables as possible, so I add frozen peas as well. It also brings in a different sweetness and texture to the beef stew.
