It has homemade whipped cream, fresh strawberries sprinkled in sugar layered over a fluffy angel food cake to make the best fresh and savory dessert. And this dessert could not be simpler to make.

What Ingredients Are in Strawberry Shortcake?

  • Angel Food Cake – Angel food cake is a light and airy sponge cake. It differs in texture from traditional cake. It’s not as dense and pairs so well with fresh fruit and whipped cream.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream – To make fresh whipped cream, you will need heavy whipping cream.
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Fresh Strawberries – For this dessert you will want to use fresh strawberries rather than frozen. It gives the best flavor.

Quick and Easy Strawberry Shortcake

  1. 30 minutes before serving, cut strawberries into slices and place in a mixing bowl.
  2. Sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar over top of the strawberries and mix until well coated.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream, 6 tablespoons sugar, and vanilla.
  5. Mix for 3-5 minutes until heavy whipping cream begins to form peaks and is light and fluffy.
  6. Assemble the strawberry shortcake.
  7. Slice a piece of angel food cake and place on a plate.
  8. Spoon strawberries over top of the angel food cake and top with desired amount of heavy whipping cream.
  9. Enjoy!

How to Store Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry is very easy to store. I store the strawberries in their own airtight container in the fridge. I also store the homemade whipping cream in its own airtight container in the fridge. Then I cover the angel food cake either with plastic wrap or place in an airtight container. You can either leave it on the counter or place it in the fridge. Placing it in the fridge does ensure it lasts longer.
