Easy Beef Lo Mein Recipe
There is a Mongolian grill restaurant about an hour from our house. It’s an all you can eat buffet, and my boys absolutely love it. They will go back time and time again until I actually feel a little guilty for the poor waitress or waiter who is cleaning up our plates. Needless to say, they can put down some food. We usually only go there on special occasions because to feed a family of six at this Mongolian buffet, is expensive. Like really expensive. My husband jokes each time we go there that we are going to have to go wash dishes in the back to pay off our bill. It is really good food, but honestly, because of the price, we maybe go there once or twice a year.
Because of this, I was determined to make my own version of this beef lo mein that we all love. I figured that I could make this for a fraction of the cost and feed my entire family too. After some trial and error, I finally figured out the best and easiest beef lo mein recipe. My family loves it, and I think you will too!

What Ingredients Are in Easy Beef Lo Mein?
- Skirt Steak or Sirloin Steak – I love to use skirt steak for beef lo mein. I honestly think skirt steak is one of the most underrated cuts of meat. Skirt steak is located on the underside or the belly of the beef. It’s long and thin and is full of flavor. It has a rich beef flavor and is perfect for this recipe. If you do not have skirt steak, you can use sirloin steak as well.
- Thai Rice Noodles – To achieve the flavor and texture that I wanted, I used some Thai Rice Noodles from Thai Kitchen that you can find here. I like to use the thicker, stir fry rice noodles for this beef lo mein recipe.
- Minced Garlic – Asian or Mongolian recipes have lots of flavor that I love. Garlic is a major flavor in these recipes, so I made sure to add in some minced garlic.
- Olive Oil – I use olive oil to fry up the steak.
- Sesame Oil – Sesame oil is also very popular in Asian and Mongolian recipes. It is made from sesame seed and has a very distinct flavor. This is going to add some huge flavor to the beef lo mein.
- Mushrooms – I love mushrooms. They’re like a sponge that soaks up all the yummy flavors in the recipe. Any type of mushrooms will do.
- Red and Yellow Bell Pepper – I love to add a little sweetness to the beef lo mein so I add both red and yellow bell peppers.
- Carrots – Carrots are a great addition to this beef lo mein!
- Kosher Salt
- Pepper
- Soy Sauce – Soy sauce is going to be the base of the sauce.
- Sugar – To combat the tang of the soy sauce, I like to add a little sugar to the sauce.

Gluten Free Lo Mein
Let’s talk gluten free here! This recipe can easily be adapted to make it gluten free. The noodles are already gluten free so the adjustment would be with the sauce. Soy sauce contains wheat which contains gluten, therefore, you would need to find a gluten-free soy sauce. This would make this recipe completely gluten free! Below is the link to a gluten free soy sauce that I use frequently.
